Summer Fun in the Sun!

Look how time flies! It seems like it was only weeks ago that Ginger had her surgery, but alas, she's all healed and back to her normal silly self. Recently her favorite Summer spot has been local dog beaches and a lovely little shop here in Long Beach called PJ's Pet Cafe! Here, she has free roam of the store and is personally served yummy gourmet goodies by one of the owners. What a wonderful idea!

Everyone else at Ginger Pup Lane are going crazy for the latest shipment of Wool Squirrel toys from the wonderful folks at Jax and Bones! These plush creatures were just featured in our newletter, and are currently available at www.gingerpuplane.com. We're also getting ready for the Halloween season and have been busy getting all our costumes up on the site. Hope you guys enjoy....

Where's the Peanut Butter?

For many of our wonderful fur babies, there's nothing sweeter than a yummy peanut butter treat. But you may start to notice these treats slowly disappearing from the store shelves. Although some people believe that only human crackers and cookies that had peanut butter in the middle were tainted, it could be more wide-spread than we originally thought.

On the FDA's website, there's a press release from the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). As you scroll down the page, you'll notice a very interesting item near the bottom of the list... Pet Food Paste and Feed Grade Peanut Butter!

PetSmart has already recalled seven of its Grreat Choice Dog Biscuit products today as a precaution against possible salmonella contamination. This contamination is still under investigation, and it may be in your pup's best interest to take a break from peanut butter until this whole thing blows over and every contaminated product has been reveled. Unless you know exactly where the peanut butter has come from and that it is safe, it's just not worth it.

Please note that this scare even goes as far back to affect products manufactured on or after July 1, 2008. So you may already have products in your home that are tainted. Please contact the store you purchased them from if you are unsure of it's origin or if it's included in the recall.

Be safe!

A Mutt Like Me

Shepard Fairey, the incredibly talented artist behind the iconic Obama "Hope" poster and Obey, has put his talent to wonderful use. His work in adoptApet.com's new ADOPT campaign is sure to make a statement. Check out the following entry from his blog:

"The day Obama stated his interest in adopting a dog from the shelter was a slightly brighter one for the approximately 7 million adoptable dogs & cats killed each year in this country. The staggering reality is that for each one sold at a pet store or by a breeder, another perfectly worthy one is killed. Our nations shelters are filled to capacity with all kinds of amazing adoptable animals including, as Obama put it, “Mutts like me.”

On the heels of Obama’s comment, I got a call from Pia Salk, an animal advocate who works with North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, Adopt-a-Pet.com. Pia simply asked if I might be willing to collaborate on a way to have my art help these animals.

As most of you know, I’m a big believer in speaking up for all who suffer injustice, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or in this case, species! And I’m all for adopting from the shelter. My wife and I share our home with 2 pooches, George and Weezie, who is a rescue. They are the happy canine siblings to our 2 human daughters.

The image I created for this print reminds me of a dog I had as kid, a mutt named Honey.

We have created a limited edition run of 400 signed and numbered silk-screen prints that will be available at: www.muttslikeme.com. The January sale date will be announced soon and proceeds will go to getting the furry non-partisan U.S. residents, who share our country, saved and into homes through: www.Adoptapet.com
Check out the site and search for adoptable animals in your area or other ways to help.

Thank you, Shepard for lending a hand!
