Notice to Yellow Lab Owners

A story was shown on the news yesterday about some young men who stole a yellow lab from a pet store here in California. (You can view the story here) What was very interesting though, was that they mentioned that the pup was the spitting image of the lab in the movie "Marley & Me". They feel this may have encouraged the theft.

Whenever movies come out that feature a certain animal or breed, there suddenly becomes a rush interest for them. During the time of release of 101 Dalmatians, I recall shelters putting out notices asking that people research the breed first because they were having so many requests for them and many submissions of them as well from people who could not properly care for them.

We can understand how you may fall for a certain dog after seeing a charming personality play out through a film. But please, always take the time to do thorough research before making a commitment to any animal. Each pet deserves a forever home. And if you've recently gotten a yellow lab puppy, please be especially cautious of who's around them until the fuss around "Marley & Me" dies down.
